Replying to @trekonomics
I compressed two ideas in my response a bit too much. I don’t know about reproduction of the eukaryotic transition; I recall reading about evidence that it happened more than once but I can’t trace it down.
But I don’t think you need eukaryotes for complexity: multi is enough.
