I disagree with @BretStephensNYT (he must get that a lot) but it's a good idea to start from "Phaedrus" to discuss technology. It is useful to look at past upheavals. Books wreaked havoc for two centuries; writing might have been worse (but we don't know). nytimes.com/2018/11/16/opi…

Writing didn't end up making us dumb; I'm confident that we can make a non-toxic Web. But we should stop being surprised that those who make a lot of money from their own bad governance aren't rushing to fix things. It's all working pretty well for them!
