They're systematically worse than cookies.
Some are asking for browsers to provide a universal identifier for everyone, the way that Android still does. Others are selling products to use unresettable identifiers like email addresses (which you use to log in) as identifiers.
The purpose is always the same: prevent user privacy, remonetise publisher audiences.
