@BrettFrischmann has a lot of good things to say about how we should be running the web, the Internets, as infrastructure. Here's a short example:

There's a strong case that infrastructure should never empower legibility. It can be used for anticompetitive purposes, as @linakhanFTC explains in her Separation of Platforms and Commerce, but even without that the reduction of uncertainty leads to harmful optimisation.

In a rugged landscape of complex, unpredictable opportunities (like the Internet), there will be many local optima much lower than alternatives. Being data-driven at the infrastructure level is a fast track to getting stuck in one and locking everyone there with path dependency.
