Yeah, you're right about the resource issues, though in fairness I don't know how much users will notice given what browsers already use :-D Browsers are still supporting mistakes made in the 90s today. That's why they're so conservative overall — and they need to be here too!

Also, one thing that is often missed is that browsers aren't like an app, they're not the end point. They're a piece of infrastructure, basically a very complicated pipe. They should of course be defensive of the user, but they shouldn't make user-related decisions.

That's why Sync and SSO integration in Chrome are so problematic: they're 100% layer violations. They're ratcheting up Chrome to be the in-app browser of the Googleverse rather than an actual browser, and that's a dark place for the Web to be.
