I wouldn't begrudge someone wanting to make a difference and I do wish that they would succeed. However, hubris might be the wrong word but I do think that there is an issue in trying to do that with the hindsight that we have.

I've watched many of the smartest and kindest hearted people I have met do that. Judging from results, even with sympathy, it's sadly obvious that they have failed. But also, it's clear that there is something that keeps them convinced to stay there and I don't think it's money.

Putting all that together, thinking that you're THE one who will finally turn those companies around when such a long list of others have failed seems to call for an explanation, a word?
