Looking at DAOs and thinking only of those folks is IMHO like looking at the earlier Internet and only seeing JP Barlow, Andreessen, or boo.com. If you give technology to libertarians, you'll get libertarianism. That's hardly surprising!

The interesting question, IMHO, is to look at it from the angle of things we wish we could do, but haven't been able to scale well easily. Like coops. Like forms of local (or the net equivalent) governance that worked well until the nation-state took over the whole niche.

There is a strong convergence between common-pool resources, platform cooperativism, and the capabilities of blockchain systems. No one has all the pieces yet, but it's happening. And it's a hell of a lot more interesting than all the coin stuff in the limelight.
