I saw that when it came out but unfortunately I am unable to listen to podcasts so I'll have to discover @big_data_kane's views through other means! To the broader point, I think that the most interesting parts of complex systems cannot be rendered *legible*...

...(in the SLAS sense) and therefore not readily digitisable in the way that we would normally digitise things (by categorising and capturing regularities). But that doesn't mean that a digital environment cannot be complex, the Web (in a capacious sense) is!

But indeed, the people who wish to act on the web as modernist city planners of old proceed through legibility and categorisation. It can't work! Though they can "succeed" (in imposing their ways) because they have the power.
