Totally agreed, I think the fact that there isn't a market for privacy is established (and there shouldn't be). Most of the VC-supported "boom" in privacy startups is for companies that are either security, compliance, or notice-and-choice stuff.
However, what I found interesting here is that this is a long-established company that is now *growing* and has a business model. I think there's a trend, and not so much because of privacy but just because more people understand you have to pay if you want quality.
People use privacy as a comparator with Google because, well, it's easy for anyone to be better at privacy than Google. But the reason those products are interesting is usually because they're just flat out better. That's particularly obvious in search & email.
