2022 was a long and demanding year, but one which leaves me hopeful and ready.

One reason to celebrate is that this year I got to meet many people who I'd been speaking with on the Internets for the longest time but had never met in the flesh. It had been too long and I cherish those encounters! ♥️

It was a year of loss. First, we lost our beloved cat Mochi.

I lost my mother after an illness that dragged on more than it ought to have.

My dear friend Marie, one of my daughters' godmother, was carried away far too soon by suicide. I have no words for the void she left behind.

It was also a year of change. I was elected to the W3C's board of directors, which has been... rather eventful in just a few short weeks.

I left The Times after five intense years. While the overall experience was excellent and I keep fond memories of almost all of it, the last months were difficult. Lesson: if you see someone bypassing HR processes to get a hire through, don't let it slide because you're tired.

I've said this before, but the gang there was the best fucking privacy (and beyond) team. Work with them whenever you get a chance! 😍

I joined Protocol Labs. In just a short two months I've already learnt a ton and met fascinating and heartwarming people. I haven't been this hopeful and excited about tech in a long time. There's a lot to do and I look forward to working with the people there much more!

In all this turmoil, I'm thankful for the health and love of friends and family. The words may be worn out but that never gets trite. Happy new year to you all, friends. 2023 is here - ON-FUCKING-WARDS!
