Chrome 2020: Unlike other browsers we could talk about, we're going to do our privacy work through a standards process. Chrome 2023: Well, I mean, obviously the "whenever the standards process agrees with us" was implied there.

I guess that maintaining the revenue stream from disinformation - which is a key part of what Topics does - is more important to Google in a downturn than keeping the standards process credible.
