Ok, let’s assume you’re voting on 10 things. Spread over 10 days: same. Yet there are lines where they’ve been voting for wks.

Replying to @sressler

Right, but in France every locality organises the election locally, and it’s 100% volunteer-run (with official verification).

Replying to @null and @amyvdh

Well that’s relative, but in general it has tended to be lower than in France (though not necessarily this election).

Replying to @sressler

Yeah, I’m not criticising, I’m just trying to figure out what France is doing right that isn’t obvious.

Replying to @sressler

They claim to be under-resourced there too. People joke about excuses they invent to give when invariably asked for help at booth.

Replying to @charlesengelke

That would make number of booths the limiting factor (since voter verification time is constant). @fabricedesre

Replying to @charlesengelke

Are booths significantly more complex here than just a some curtain on a structure? @fabricedesre

Replying to @charlesengelke

In France they’re like this: hellopro.fr/images/produit…. In both cases it looks easy to scale up :) @fabricedesre

Replying to @fabricedesre

But the limiting factor is people on site to verify voters. It’s easy to scale the hardware ;)

Replying to @Simon_Lucy

Yes, but form-filling is a highly parallel process.

Replying to @Simon_Lucy

The people can do it in parallel. The bottleneck is voter verification (normally).
Fun fact! Last time I resided in the US during an election, G.W. Bush won against Al Gore.

So… Replacing a vanilla browserify one-liner with webpack (out of the box) made my bundle 230% of the size (both unminified). Okay.
After 2h, countless doc pages & blogs, and screenfuls of configuration the *minified* webpack version is still 115% of unminified original.
Am I doing something obviously wrong or is that the expected experience? I’ve given up on webpack before, I’m not being convinced right now.

What worries me is those aren’t crazy corner-cases. Using keys on _all_docs on _users is pretty basic.

Replying to @nekrtemplar

There were several problems indeed. Somewhere in a dependency `unicode`’s data was no longer ignored — that’s *huge*.

Replying to @nekrtemplar

And yes, much of the rest is core Node stuff that Browserify handles by default. I need to work through the details more.

Replying to @nekrtemplar

Overall I think this could be fixed by docs (as you no doubt know). The «WebPack for Browserify» thing didn’t help much.

Replying to @nekrtemplar

I’d be happy to file some notes next week if that’s helpful.

Replying to @tabatkins

How so? We could have had single-source at the WHATWG and patent protection years ago, with all happy to contribute.

Replying to @tabatkins

That is entirely inaccurate. I made a proposal including labels and all. It was rejected solely on stylistic grounds.

So you believe that snapshots should have no style at all? I still have to hear a solid argument for that.

Replying to @tabatkins

Replying to @tabatkins

Dismissing things as «watered down» and powered by «ego» isn’t feedback, it’s trolling.

Replying to @tabatkins

Yes. This proposal, possibly tweaked some, fully addresses that.

Replying to @tabatkins

I think the Usage section can take the time to explain things. The fixed banner should be clear-cut. Different use cases.

Replying to @tabatkins

That was my goal until you started being mean. We can ignore that and reboot if you want!

Replying to @tabatkins

Which is *exactly* why that section can take the time to explain. It’s only intended for the people who read those parts.

Replying to @tabatkins

Hence *BIG FIXED TOP BAR SAYING «THIS SNAPSHOT, YOU WANT LIVE UNLESS SURE»*.

Replying to @tabatkins

Sure, as I said, that’s easily fixable.

Replying to @tabatkins

Sure, it could probably move in that direction. I think that makes too many assumptions, but it can get close IMHO.

Replying to @tabatkins

Note though that that part was deemed okay in the discussion, actually…

Replying to @tabatkins

Well, I can’t commit to anything on behalf of anyone *now*, but that proposal was seen as workable with room for change.

Replying to @tabatkins

After long back and forth the only remaining objection from WHATWG was that there was a stylesheet.
