It's not absolutely being a jerk. Some hero programmers aren't jerks. It's the problem with someone who does reams of code.

You never get a good team dynamic because whatever was collectively decided is overridden by the 10,000 lines he writes over the weekend.

But no one can complain because it fixes five bugs and adds two features. At the cost of long-term toxicity.
