Both @fantasai and @Lady_Ada_King make great points, but the trend towards frameworks over technology is part of broader shift in Web development from craftsmanship towards industrialisation. More enterprise, less interdisciplinary.

Frameworks are part of that, but maybe the clearest indication is prettier. The minute you start to value computer-enforced consistency over readability you’ve left the workshop and built an assembly line, with infantilised workers.

Learning the tech to be able to switch frameworks (or do without) is important because the step after assembly line is robotisation. If you know nothing without a framework, if you can’t be readable without prettier, ten years from now you’re out of a job — plain and simple.

I would add: there’s a host of non-tech abilities that are vital to tech such as design, communication, quality, governance, organisation. You’ll want to pick up your share of those. If nothing else, frameworks get pretty fucking boring after the ten first ones.
