It's Google's right not to release data, but you can't then expect people to be convinced by a study that is missing too much to be useful to us. You cite it as empirical evidence but we have to take it on faith. Yes, they have experience doing A/B: to support your business.
At the very least we would have to know what the "contextual" options were. I mean, programmatic contextual buys are a very specific segment of buys today! Is this mostly buys intended for Search but mistakenly sent to AdX from the GDN default? It would explain a lot.
