That is to some extent a fair point, but conversely the simple suggestion that people must not be trackable (short of non-dark-pattern opt in) is met from adtech with nothing other than "ZOMFG! It's the nucular zombie apocalypse! We all die!" So what's the next step?
It's also hard to take the IAB seriously when today's privacy crisis is largely a consequence of its utter lack of leadership and honesty over the past two decades. If the Rearc intent is sincere, a leadership change might help make it credible.
When I got the Rearc email I thought "Hey, that would be cool if true." but it's really hard to imagine the IAB creating something: * user-centric, * good for publishers, * sustainable business, * technically sound, * with good governance. That's five things to change at once.
