Agreed, but even without looking at the ethical side, I think it's fair to question whether we're seeing much innovation at all. A lot of the disruption is just massive VC funding of ideas that aren't that new to compete for the market.
I think that removing the existing incentives to compete for rather than in would lead to far more tech progress. For instance, there are better ways to organise Uber, but they can't surface under the current setup.
