Billie also had a great sense of humour. One of her favourite jokes she pulled off for years on end. She was a tiny black cat, so she could hide very effectively in the small space between the nightstand and the bed. Every evening, she would do that on my wife’s side — and wait.
She could wait hours if she had to, the point was to be forgotten about. Then, when my wife would reach her sleepy hand out of bed to switch the light off, she would pounce brutally and grab her arm, before running off, rejoicing in all the screaming.
If my wife remembered to look at caught her, she would stop doing it for a few days — just long enough to instil a sense of renewed normalcy. And then she would strike again! You could almost hear her giggle. Tell me there isn’t a theory of mind at work in there.
