I look at it even outside anticompetitive concerns, real as they are. The amount of sludge choice architecture in the Chrome Sync consent funnel should not be possible in a trustworthy environment — even if the data were only used for saintly purposes.
If we lose the assumption that browsers are trustworthy then there is literally nothing left that works on the Web. The architectural bottom falls out on the whole argument from RFC8890 and values-based protocols. The fiduciary model seeks to make the foundation work (again).
