I beg to differ. I initially didn't want to switch to duck because I thought it'd be a Linux experience. I stayed there because it's the best experience I've found. That's actually the point: there is no such thing as a search engine good for all or at all times.

If you try to make search that is good at everything and anyone, you get Google Search: really good at some generic things but with really unhelpful biases for others (eg. towards freshness, away from smaller but locally relevant) and random infoboxes that may or may not show up.

Ideally, browsers would make it easy to pick the right specialised search on the fly. Unfortunately, they're all relying on selling users to search engines, so their interests are out of line with those of users. So you get whoever can pay more owning the market. Not great.
