I mean, if you stop using a password manager, you are already committed to manually resetting your password on dozens or hundreds of sites. And remembering if it was your personal, work, previous work, college... email.

At the end of the day, within the constraints that are given, I can't think of any better design. Does it have problems? Sure. But all the alternatives that don't involve rebuilding how identity works on the web are worse.
