Sadly, I think it's more complicated than that, Roger! Sharing data broadly (as done now) does seem to harm competition (see berjon.com/competition-pr…), so a Privacy Sandbox "done right" would actually help — which means we something like it, and need to engage.
But Google are only doing the parts that benefit them, while regulators stick to stern tut-tutting (sometimes even wagging a finger). It's fixable and we could use some of the good ideas from the Sandbox, but lining the ducks up is hard.
And we're also dealing with a small but vocal rearguard that wants to preserve the status quo even though, well, [points all around]. Google couldn't have hoped for better allies just when we need a united vision the most.
