I'm aware, and it sucks big time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are two problems. One is to make privacy work, the other is to convince your government not to be stupid. Let's leave the former aside for now...

I honestly have no idea how to make Brexiteers have intelligent opinions, but might it be a better approach to point out that the GDPR does not require consent in this way, that's largely a DPA decision? The ICO could keep the law and decide to make it work better.
