This is a classic platforms move. If you want better privacy/governance they will now begrudgingly give it to you but they'll also remove unrelated features just out of spite. Google's limited ads is the same.

It's the business equivalent of how Google punishes people for wanting privacy, for instance when you opt out of web & app activity and all of a sudden you can't have history in Maps. Gotta make privacy painful or people might want it.
