I am delighted, honoured, and humbled to announce that I have been elected to the @w3c's first Board of Directors. Many thanks to those who organised a clean and effective election, to the Membership for voting, and to all candidates for a respectful, caring campaign!

I was heartened to see that we had an embarrassment of excellent people in the running even if I am saddened that not all could make the cut. I hope that those who did not get elected will be able to work with the Board — we're going to need all the help we can get.

Like many of you I want in-depth reform of digital governance, so that those who build and rely on the Web have a voice in how it runs. But I have to be frank: before we can get there we need to eat our greens and get the Consortium on sure footing. We *will* get there though!

I'll close by saying that the @w3c has a duty to the whole Web community. All Web problems are W3C problems. So if you have an issue, don't hesitate to bring it to the Board!
