I'm not characterising it that way to be antagonistic. The effect of defaults is well documented and the biggest player can pay more: this creates an obvious feedback loop. More generally, search and browser are the same product to users. We have to pick which one eats the other.
Right now search is eating browsers. I honestly don't think that Chrome will still meaningfully exist in ten years under the current dynamic, it'll be replaced by the Search app with in-app browsing. Or become indistinguishable from that.
Igalia is very cool, but that's not scalable. A better business model for browsers means a world in which we can liberate Chrome and Chromium (and Firefox) from Google. I think that's an ambition worth having.
