I spent five years in media arguing that the privatisation of digital infrastructure was a freedom of the press issue, to be tackled head-on. Too often, people squinted as if I were some kind of weird activist. Reporters are now being censored on a major channel. #twitterpurge

I'm not saying this to pat myself on the back; I likely didn't make the case well enough. But hoping that things will magically work out if media businesses just stay neutral isn't a strategy.

And hoping that the exact same setup in ads, search, browsers, OSs… will somehow work out better is naive. The question is when, not if.
