That's a fair point. I don't think that they're necessarily bad for users (though in some cases context and the right authority matter and Google doesn't reflect that well) but they're extractive. The solve would be to do them but pay for the content, even a tiny bit.

The overarching idea is to make sure that the web is a regenerative system, you don't take out more than you put in. This is what Google is particularly bad at, unfortunately.
