C'est la rentrée! \o/

I’m dropping CCs, you know where to look for the replies :)

Replying to @really_bz and @bz_moz

I haven’t dug into this, but can’t you expose them wrapped? Or am I missing the problem?

Replying to @null and @marcosc

Requiring non-JS system bindings for some stuff isn’t that big a deal. «Mostly-JS» is enough. @bz_moz

Replying to @null and @marcosc

No, we’re looking for a way to get web devs hacking browsers — minimising C++ is just a means to that end. @bz_moz

Replying to @null and @marcosc

If much/most of the Web-exposed stuff becomes fully JS-hackable that’s waaaay enough to get the ball rolling. @bz_moz

Replying to @ShaneHudson

That’s certainly a problem I can sympathise with, having done it and failed many times. @marcosc @bz_moz

Replying to @ShaneHudson

But it’s even harder on people if they don’t know the language ;) @marcosc @bz_moz

Glad you like it :) There’s still a lot of work left though…

Replying to @really_bz and @bz_moz

That it’s not an EventHandler/Function but an object containing that and a pointer to its context?

Replying to @really_bz and @bz_moz

But then I’m not sure which specific problem you’re pointing at so I’m likely grasping at very short straws :)

Replying to @really_bz and @bz_moz

Performance, priorities, lack of this or that… — feels like a conversation on Gecko and mobile from ten years ago :) @marcosc

Replying to @sangwhanmoon

Of course the complexity stays, but lang+community size/type make a difference. @ShaneHudson @marcosc @bz_moz

Replying to @yoavweiss and @stevefaulkner, @domenic

The plan (I’m writing up more details) from darobin.github.io/after5/ is to have living specs.

Please don’t try to drag me into that totally useless discussion :) Glad to hear you think it could work. @t @annevk @hsivonen

The GFDL is not GPL-compatible? That’s news to me! @t @marcosc @hsivonen

Replying to @annevk

Read the second paragraph right at the top. @t @marcosc @hsivonen

Replying to @domenic

To put it gently: it seems to have all the advantages of CC0 without the political polarisation.

Replying to @domenic

It’s also the licensing model for Wikipedia, so there’s good precedent (actually used in court).

Replying to @Hixie

How does that change people rehashing the same points they've made before with no new information not useless?

Replying to @domenic

A bunch of large companies, notably two major browser vendors. Maybe we could sway them with a strong show of community support.

Replying to @domenic

Indeed, I was wrong. This does not improve my opinion of the FSF and GPL. @annevk @t @marcosc @hsivonen

Are there non-idealised interactions that are really time-reversible? The textbook billiard ball example is clearly bollocks.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

I mean physical interactions (what’s the other kind? :) but I’m not sure what your notation refers to.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

All the texts on reversibility invariably cite billiard balls as a reversible process because «the video backwards makes sense».

Replying to @null and @karlpro

But that’s bollocks, because friction. And any pool player knows that since friction is actually used in the game.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

I understand S for entropy but still not the whole line :-)

Replying to @null and @karlpro

In the sense that you can't infer an arrow of time from a record of all the moving parts.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

Splitting «contexts» up strikes me as precisely what is specious :)

Replying to @vgholkar

Right. But Carnot’s is only reversible if you assume infinitesimals are real. Which strikes me as unlikely :) @karlpro

Replying to @null and @karlpro

LOL.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

But, yeah, that’s the heart of the problem. I question if it might not be entirely wrong for that very purpose.

Replying to @null and @karlpro

Of course, but not all are *equally* specious. That’s the point of coming up with new ones :)

Replying to @null and @karlpro

I would claim that the notion of a reversible process has been at odds with observation for quite a while by now. Hence my question

Replying to @null and @karlpro

No, no one claims it is possible, but you have to wonder if even thinking in those terms isn’t causing trouble.

Replying to @null and @m_strehl

I understand that, but it is a completely idealised example that never exists.

Replying to @null and @m_strehl

I know. The point of my question was whether there are actual cases (inc. microscopic) in which no aspect is neglected.

Replying to @null and @m_strehl

That can’t even theoretically work :)
