If I promise to give you some rice in exchange for money, you give me money, and I give you nothing, that’s fraudulent, it’s predatory.
If I’m charging you €50/kg for rice, you can say that rice should never be that expensive, but it could be caused by a variety of things.
Maybe indeed I’m a profiteer. Or maybe I suck at making rice. Then the question becomes: how to make someone else sell rice fairly?
Or then again maybe it turns out that rice really is hard to make. But it’s a discussion that can be had, vs predation where it’s just no.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m doing :)

I dunno, I’m used to dysfunctional — I knew it was hard going in. With the benefit of hindsight, I still see serious inefficiencies.

Yup. For me it’s a recurring theme in politics, standards, etc.: the people whose values/goals I am close to often see a truncated reality.
I’m not sure how to fix that. Radical pragmatism doesn’t have a romantic flag to flock to :)
Maybe it’s time this industry took standardisation seriously, the way others do? That’s how you make integration a non-issue.
I understand the business side of things, but it’s hard — and possibly illegal in some cases — to do when you can’t hide behind tech issues.
Actually, having multiple options makes things *easier* to standardise, not harder. You’re not just picking the first one that showed up.

I am not saying this to castigate those helming those tasks today, many of whom I know to be excellent and caring people.
