Great article from @backlon. The problem, though, is with what that «any client» actually is. theverge.com/2017/5/24/1568…

Browsers are massive and in large part monolithic. New entrants are vanishingly rare, and require heavy resources.

At the end of the day, that risks leaving the Web with custodians that can only be large, powerfully-resourced companies.

I am not saying this to castigate those helming those tasks today, many of whom I know to be excellent and caring people.

But let’s be honest: «any client (backed by massive capitalistic resources)» isn’t a very desirable property for a supposedly open system.

Can we fix it? I don’t know for sure. It’s hard. We could splinter the code base some, but we’d be lucky if that got us 20% of the way.
