Right — I'm less worried about stripping down journalists than stripping down journalism by increasing incentives to write for SEO traffic. Complete and maybe wrong speculation: could I not run a news business just on the JCPA payments, without eg. ads or other?

I ask because no ads and no paywall mean you can get stellar CWV and likely very low bounce rates. Throw in disinfo, clickbait, AMP, and fast low-quality reporting and you've got yourself a massive search presence that beats those who make money honestly.
