Isn't the problem here the underlying assumption that there is a one-size-fits-all way to learn? It takes me tremendous feats of focus that leave me drained to listen to any podcast episode to the, I think I've only managed twice. Yet they clearly work for many.
(to the *end) Conversely, I can read for hours in a row, and if I take notes it'll largely stick. I can only assume that it's the same but reversed for others? You make a good point about editing in books vs podcasts but I think that @VitalikButerin's point holds for audiobooks.
It's also true that most books are longer than they need to be. I don't know if that's true of podcasts? I often find that a good writer can do wonders in scholarly article form yet become diluted in a book if the argument isn't that capacious.
